Congratulations to AHS member Kirsten Agresta Copely, who recorded harp on Broadway star Aaron Lazar's Impossible Dream album, a star-studded recording that was nominated in the Best Traditional Pop Album category.
The album gained much attention as Aaron was recently diagnosed with ALS. Record sale proceeds benefit the ALS Network.
Impossible Dream is a studio album by American actor and singer Aaron Lazar and includes duets with artists such as Josh Groban, Neil Patrick Harris, Leslie Odom Jr, and Kristin Chenoweth, among others. "Let Your Soul Be the Pilot", the album's first single release, won an HIMA Award for "Best Adult Contemporary Song" and the album charted at #2 on Billboard's Classical Crossover Albums chart.
We caught up with Kirsten for a quick Q&A. Enjoy!
How did you end up working on this album?
The producers invited me to record, as they’re very familiar with my work and have brought me in for projects before. One of those albums—Kitt Wakeley: An Adoption Story—actually won Best Classical Compendium in 2023, so it was an honor to collaborate with them again on Impossible Dream.
What was the process like?
The process was incredibly creative and seamless. The producers sent me the charts, and I had the freedom to add my own harp parts on top. I recorded everything in my studio, Casa Copely Recording, layering textures to complement Aaron’s stunning vocals and the lush arrangements.
Do you have any fun anecdotes from working on this project?
One of the highlights was being invited to watch the chorus record the title track, "Impossible Dream." The group included singers from all over the U.S., many of whom are GRAMMY® nominees and winners, as well as stars like Kristen Chenoweth, Josh Groban, and Neil Patrick Harris. It was truly incredible to hear those powerhouse voices soaring at Power Station in NYC—such an unforgettable experience!
Do you have any special plans for the Grammys this year?
I wasn’t able to make it out to LA this year, but I’ll be cheering on the Impossible Dream team from home in NYC!
