New York MetroHarp Chapter Presents Virtual Workshop with Juan Riveros

Virtual Workshop with Juan Riveros

  • Sunday, October 13, 2024
  • 11:00 AM  1:00 PM

In this online workshop, Juan Riveros will discuss compositional processes and writing for the harp, using his own compositions and works from both classical and Latin American repertoires to explore the vast opportunities for expression through music. There is no right or wrong way to compose, but rather endless possibilities for the organization of pitch and rhythm, resulting in different end-results. Every composer will use different musical materials to build a piece, and these works are simultaneously influenced by the other pieces the composer is familiar with. As such, every piece presents a uniquely configured set of expressions that reflect not only a composer’s intentions and goals, but also their identity. Topics will include: Harp-Friendly Organization, Achieving Affect, Influences/Inspirations, and Identifying Your Sound.
