THE AMERICAN HARP SOCIETY
37th NATIONAL CONFERENCE
July 2-5, 2006
San Francisco, California

Mark your calendar! Planning is now in high gear. We've confirmed appearances by leading harpists from around the globe, workshops that will challenge and excite you along with many special events, and the all-important exhibits.

As reported earlier, the multi-cultures of San Francisco and The Pacific Rim will be the centerpiece of performances by Maria Luisa Rayan-Forero (Argentina), Julie Ann Smith (USA), and Naoko Yoshino (Japan) on Opening Night, with reception music by our own Paul Hurst.

A Chamber Music Concert will include Gillian Benet Sella, Julie
Lang-Bunzel, Dan Levitan, Olga Ortenberg-Rakitchenkov and Douglas Rioth.

Harp Ensembles of The Pacific Rim will include Jim Pinkerton and Michael Rado (USA), Kiola Harp Ensemble with Alice Giles (Australia), Sondos with Janet Paulus and Mercedes Gomez (Mexico), Pacific Ensemble with Ann Yeung & Kyo-Jin Lee (Asia).

Included in the diverse schedule of workshops, look for insights into Education and Training with Susann McDonald and Linda Wood Rollo. Boost your professional life in a Career Planning workshop devoted to freelance opportunities, legal contracts and guidelines for recording and publishing. For the ultimate hands-on experience, join a Master Class led by Opening Night recitalists.

A new highlight event will include three sessions of 'Aficionado' Harp
Ensembles.

Beach Blanket Babylon is the hilarious musical revue that has become a local tradition which we've scheduled as one of the optional fun events that is truly 'San Francisco.' At our Gala Chinatown Banquet, you'll savor the delicacies of The Pacific Rim.

Our beautiful Conference venue is the historic Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square, where you and your family can expect turn-of-the century elegance (dating back to 1904), in beautifully refurbished accommodations. All Conference activities will take place at the hotel except the two public concerts, a short walk away. Room information about special Conference Rates will be available in the Fall.

As you can see, San Francisco will become the international hub of the harp world during the Conference. It's a great opportunity to be part of a memorable event, by joining us as a volunteer. Be sure to contact us at sfharp.org.

In closing, I'd like to thank everyone in our local chapters who is already involved in planning the Conference. Your time, energy and insights are greatly appreciated, and will make all the difference to the event's success. I look forward to future updates as the Conference takes shape.   In the meantime, join us at sfharp.org for news as it occurs.
