NEWS:
Annabelle Taubl, Young Professional Division winner in the AHS 2001 National Competition and AHS Young Artist, was the guest artist at the first meeting of the Connecticut Chapter on October 13th at the 1st Congregational Church of Darien. Annabelle is a resident of New Hampshire in the New England Region.

The AHS Auditions and Evaluations were held October 27 and November 17 at the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven. Dulcie Barlow was the adjudicator.

The annual chapter Student Harp Recital was held on June 9th in Darien. Participants were Patricia Fox, Jenna Frank, Emily Curtis, Katherine Critelli, Alana Scharlop, Sally Chakwin, Laurel Fay, Caroline Legan, Helen Ratajczak, ShokoWhittermore, Diana Lynn, Ariana Mucci, Kerry Donovan, Carrianne Dillon, Kate Conway, Sarah Malin, Emily Chakwin, Olivia Giroux, Eva Becker and Tiffany Yusko.

Wendy Kerner Lucas presented the Gold Cup Awards for participation in the Young Musicians Festival sponsored by the Schubert Club of Fairfield County to Tiffany Yusko and Carianne Dillon.

Students of Rebecca Fay Squire will perform with the Trinity Boys Choir during the Guilford tree lighting ceremony on December 6 and at the Winter Club in Madison on December 7th.

Kerry Renzoni was harpist with the youth orchestra at the Chautauqua Institute during the summer and is continuing her studies as a harp performance major in her junior year at the Eastman School of Music.

Matt Tutsky spent the summer studying harp with June Hahn at Bowdoin College.

Wendy Kerner Lucas performed with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra on October 19th, with the Bridgeport Symphony on October 26th and with The Glorian Duo at the British Art Center at Yale on November 3rd.

Emily Oppenheimer will participate in the Westport School of Music Faculty Chamber Music Concert at The United Methodist, 49 Weston Road, Westport CT on January 19, 2003 at 3 PM (free).


MAINE

Jara Goodrich continues to perform as soloist and principal harpist with the Portland Symphony, the Portland Repertory Theater and the National Lyric Opera of Boston and New York. She is busy teaching with her active students.

Cheryl Loset, 17, was the 1st place winner in junior division of the 12th Biennial National Solo Competition Finals. This was her first competition and she played the Debussy Sonate and the Introduction and Allegro by Ravel at the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival in July.

Molly Nichols, 13, placed first in the Arcady Youth Competition and was soloist with the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra playing the Andante-Allegro from Handel’s Harp Concerto in B-flat. While Molly was memorizing the Handel she was also studying spelling and became the Maine State Champion and placed 5th out of 250 in the National Spelling Bee.

Meredith Bolton, 16, will be the harp soloist playing Vivaldi’s Concerto in D-major on the USM/Fleet String Concert in November.

Sarah Brazell, 12, and Maia Stamieszkin, 13, perform with the USM/Fleet Wind Ensemble. Maia is in the Harp Ensemble at the Portland Conservatory. Sarah, Maia, and Margrethe Hassell, 15, will attend the Southern Maine String Academy where they participate in orchestra and chamber music.

Rhianna Herleikson, harp student at USM, performed the Brahms Four Songs with the University Chorale in November.

The USM Harp Ensemble once again received an enthusiastic response at its spring concert and will be featured at the USM Holiday Gala in December.


MASSACHUSETTS

Susan Miron’s CD, A Birthday Hansel: music for voice and harp, was released on Chandos Records. Other performers are Annette Betanski, soprano, with Jacques Zoon, flute; Cathy French, violin; Burton Fine, viola; Martha Babcock, cello; and James Sommerville, horn, all members of the Boston Symphony.

Susan and her husband, violist Burton Fine, performed on a program Great Masters of Chamber Music at the World Harp Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, in July. She recently recorded her transcriptions of 13 Scarlatti Keyboard Sonatas to be released in 2003.

Judy Ross invites any interested students of all ages and levels to audition for the Massachusetts Harp Ensemble. The Ensemble has been invited to perform for the 5th time in the Reagle Massachusetts Players’ production of A Little Bit of Ireland in Waltham in March 2003.
