ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WICKERSHAM AWARD

The Wickersham Award of $500.00, given on the basis of financial need and musical promise in the study of the harp, will be given to those pursuing study in the field of music therapy using the harp and/or striving to play in hospital, therapy and hospice settings..

Application deadline is 1 April 2008

Requirements:

1. Applicants must be members of the American Harp Society.
2. Applications must be received by 1 April 2008 .

Application should include:

1. Applicant's full name, legal residence, present address, telephone number and e-mail address.

2. A brief biography which shall include musical and academic education, personal profile, general analyis of financial need, and long-range career goals for experience with the harp.

3. An additional hand-written, i. e. not typed, statement of no more than two pages on why this award is desired and why the applicant might otherwise not be able to pursue immediate goals.

4. A CD recording of the applicant's playing, of no more than fifteen (15) minutes in l ength, which demonstrates musical ability. Selections are to be free choice.

5. The emphasis in judging is to be on musicality, not on technical merit or length of study.

6. Two letters of reference, evaluating the applicant's candidacy. One of these should be from a present or previous harp instructor. Letters from family members are not acceptable.

Award will be paid directly to the applicant.
The applicant need not be present in person to receive the award.
