FOUNDATION AWARDS

Anne Adams Awards, 2008

The American Harp Society is pleased to announce the 16th Anne Adams Awards Auditions to be held during the 38th American Harp Society Conference. Three awards of $2000 each for full time study of the harp will be given. Lyon & Healy will enhance the awards with a $500 gift certificate and a specially designed award for each winner. They also have a permanent plaque in their showroom engraved with the winners’ names.

The 2008 Adams Awards Auditions will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn Michigan on Sunday, June 22, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Requirements of the awards to harpists are:

Applications will be accepted from advanced students who are:

  • Members of the American Harp Society
  • Enrolled full time in colleges or universities through a Master's Degree, or other post-high school institutions, during the year of the awards.

Applicants will be asked to:

  • Submit a typewritten application with a non-refundable application fee of $25, to arrive no later than March 25, 2008, to;

Checks should be made payable to the American Harp Society Foundation.

Applicants should include:

  • Full name, birth date, legal residence, present address, telephone number, and E-mail address.
  • A history of formal and informal educational background both in music and in other fields of general culture.
  • A statement of long-range career goals.
  • A detailed description of plans for study during the year of the award, including proof of availability of the persons and facilities involved in the study program.
  • Three letters of reference, two of which must be from music teachers, evaluating the applicant’s candidacy.
  • A list of all previous harp teachers, of current repertoire, and of recent public performances, both as a soloist and as a member of an ensemble.
  • A CD recording of the two required solos.

Repertoire requirements are selected by a committee appointed by the American Harp Society Foundation and will include a cadenza or excerpt from an opera, ballet, or symphonic work. Applicants may bring their own instruments or play on an instrument provided by the Society.
